DOMINICA (Aug. 12, 2016) — Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in Dominica Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, says that in a matter of weeks, the government will make E.C.$1million available to the Dominica Youth Business Trust (D.Y B. T), in order to promote entrepreneurship among Dominica’s youth.
Speaking at a signing ceremony for the establishment of two special loan facilities, which will be used to guarantee loans for young people who want to get into business, Skerrit said this is a means of creating sustainable employment, and growing the country’s economy. He said loans will be made available at an interest rate of three per cent.
Skerrit advised musicians, especially, to take advantage of the opportunities to upgrade their musical product.
In his recent Budget presentation, the Prime Minister made reference to the loan facility to support the music industry.
“There are a lot of young people who I have met who have exceptional talent,” he said then.
In May, the government financed training for musicians and artistes, in collaboration with the Association of Music Professionals (AMP), in support of AMP’s efforts to professionalise the music industry in Dominica.
